The iPhone has many useful tricks a lot of people don't know about. Here are 5 of them.

1 Back Tap

Back Tap is a feature available on iPhones running iOS 14 or newer, in which you can double or triple tap the Apple logo on the back of your phone to access certain features quickly. Some of these features include the camera, lock screen, notification center, Siri, and Shortcuts (more on that later). To use Back Tap, go to Settings, then Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap, and select your desired features.

2 Manage Home Screen Pages

In iOS 15, Apple lets you rearrange or remove Home Screen pages in one tap. Hold down on any space in the Home Screen to enter jiggle mode. Once there, tap on the bubble around the page dots at the bottom of your screen. From there, you can rearrange the pages on your Home Screen by pressing and dragging them where you want. You can also hide a page by unchecking the check mark below the previews. To remove a page entirely, you can hide the page and press the minus button on the top left of the preview. None of this will delete any of your apps.

3 AR Walking Directions in Major Cities

iOS 15 also includes the ability to scan your surroundings with an iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, or newer in Maps and be guided with walking directions in real life images on your phone. To use this feature, start a walking route and raise your phone, then scan the buildings in your surroundings when prompted.

4 Remote Microphone Using AirPods

Apple unintentionally made it so you can listen in on other people's conversations by placing your iPhone next to them while having AirPods connected. This was intended to be an accessibility feature for people with hearing aids, but Apple allows AirPods users to use this feature. You can set this up by adding "Hearing" to the Control Center. Once it's there, make sure you have your AirPods connected, and press the ear then microphone button to start listening.

5 Quickly Record Video in Camera

Most people know that if you open the Camera app, it'll default to taking a picture. If you ever need to record something really quickly, like a once-in-a-lifetime event, open the Camera app, then tap and slide your finger to the right from the shutter button. This will quickly start recording.

Bonus

Insert Written Text into Notes (Upcoming Update)

When iOS 15.4 is released, reported to happen in early March, you will be able to insert written or printed text from your camera into a note or reminder, using the Scan Text feature available under the camera button in the Notes app. Simply tap the button and hover your phone over the text you want to add to a note. A button labeled "Insert" will enter your text into the current note.
