Apple promotes its conservation and green energy initiatives each year around Earth Day and makes gifts to various charities. From April 14 through April 22 (Earth Day) in 2022, Apple will pay $1 to the WWF for every Apple Pay transaction made in its physical or online stores. In previous years, the charities were more diverse.

Apple has previously worked with the WWF; Their first project together was a 1 million-acre forest management project in China in 2015. Apple gave more than $8 million to the charity the next year through App Store promotions. The $1 per Apple Pay campaign to assist WWF was reinstated in 2017. Apple explains the importance of the World Wildlife Fund in an email sent to its customers: "For 60 years, World Wildlife Fund has worked to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. Connecting cutting-edge conservation science with the collective power of its partners in the field, World Wildlife Fund strives to develop and deliver innovative solutions that protect communities, wildlife, and the places in which they live." Apple will most likely discuss its environmental initiatives on or around Earth Day, as it does every year, Apple retail stores also frequently change the Apple logo's leaf green for the day. This year, Apple honors Earth Day with an Activity Challenge in addition to the WWF donations. Users may get a special badge on the fitness app if they complete any workout for 30 minutes or more on April 22.
