Apple updated the Apple Watch's operating system with new features and better user interfaces. Apple Watch users will now have additional watch faces to pick from, as well as richer complications that give more information and personalization options.

The Workout app has been upgraded to provide more performance metrics as well as new training experiences. WatchOS 9 offers a new Workout app for creating planned workouts.

A new pacer experience allows users to select a distance and time goal for completing a run, and it estimates the pace necessary. Swimmers may now use a SWOLF score to track their efficiency. Fitness+ routines now include on-screen advice as well as trainer coaching. The Apple Watch can tell you if you're sleeping in REM, Core, or Deep sleep. You can stream workouts and meditations to compatible third-party TVs and devices via AirPlay. The new sleep tracking feature in watchOS 9 gives you even more information about how much time you spend sleeping. AFib is one of the most common disorders that can lead to stroke, and Apple Watch owners can now measure its frequency. A thorough history of their AFib and lifestyle variables may also be viewed by users. Users may track drugs discreetly using the Medications app for Apple Watch. The iPhone's assistive capabilities, such as Voice Control and Switch Control, make Apple Watch more accessible to persons with physical and motor limitations. A kid may now be added to Family Setup to manage HomePod speakers and smart home accessories via the Home app. House keys and hotel keys may also be stored in Apple Wallet. Apple Watch Series 7 now supports French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. Actively used apps are prioritized in the new Dock above the rest of the apps. After an Outdoor Walk, Run, or Hiking activity, Apple Watch now predicts Cardio Recovery. Starting today, Apple Developer Program members may download the developer beta of watchOS 9 at developer.apple.com. Apple Watch customers will be able to participate in a public beta next month at beta.apple.com. Apple Watch Series 4 or later, coupled with iPhone 8 or later, and iPhone SE (second generation) or later, running iOS 16, will receive watchOS 9 as a free software upgrade this autumn.
