According to Nikkei Asia, Apple is reducing manufacturing of its new affordable iPhone SE due to less than anticipated demand. They claim Apple has requested its suppliers to reduce manufacturing of the new budget iPhone by roughly 2-3 million units, which is about 20% of original production.
Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a tweet that he is lowering his 2022 shipping projections for the latest iPhone SE from 25 to 30 million units to about 15 to 20 million units. He claims the budget iPhone saw lower demand than Apple expected.
Apple is also reducing production of the iPhone 13 series, although sources close to the situation told Nikkei Asia that the reduction is due to seasonal demand changes. Apple is also reducing AirPods manufacturing, but it does not indicate which model or models would be affected.
