In this week’s Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, he added more tidbits about Apple’s upcoming Mixed Reality headset. For those who missed out, last Friday, he says that it may get delayed to late-2022 or later then released in 2023 due to overheating, camera, and software issues.
Now in his newsletter, Gurmmy says that Apple has discussed to make Apple’s mixed reality headset to start above $2000, and he expects there would be two processors, an M1-like processor, and one for sensors. Then he reiterated that it will be focused on basically almost the same purpose as the iPhone but will not be an all-day device.
He bets at least three names that may be called for the headset:
Apple Vision - since realistic
Apple Reality - because of rOS (realityOS)
Apple Sight or iSight - he thought about Apple‘s old iSight face camera
Or Apple Lens or Apple Goggles.
In other topics Mark Gurman talked about in his newsletter, he says that Apple’s CarKey feature is set for its expansion beyond BMW, likely models from Hyundai and its Genesis line that will be released by this summer. And unfortunately, the CarKey partership is kinda messed up over Apple Car‘s production about a year ago.
Fun Fact: He also said that Apple made a prototype of a battery-powered HomePod years ago.
