While currently iPhones closest to having USB-C ports were Do it Yourself versions, we got a new report by Kuo Ming Chi (Ming-Chi Kuo) today that Apple will finally transition from Lightning to USB-C.

You may wonder why Apple has not yet transitioned its iPhones to USB-C, it is due to that it was not yet ready at the time the iPhone 5 is being developed and was forced to still use Lihtning till this day to prevent a PR nightmare, specifically to prevent embarrassment and damage of reputation especially when Apple was using the Lightning port for two years by the time USB-C was already ready.

So today, Kuo Ming Chi reported that his latest survey from apple suppliers have revealed that the 2023 iPhones aka the iPhone 15 will finally start its transition to the USB-C port, allowing faster transfer and charging speeds but abandons the Lightning port and its final spec sheet details still depend on iOS support.

And for those who are wondering, USB-C related suppliers will now become the market's next focus in the next year or two thanks to iPhones USB-C adoption or basically benefit from it.

My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone’s transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.
It’s expected to see existing USB-C-related suppliers of Apple’s ecosystem (e.g., IC controller, connector) become the market’s focus in the next 1-2 years, thanks to vast orders from iPhones and accessories’ adoption of USB-C ports.

Given that Apple has already transitioned their other products to USB-C such as the iPad and the Mac, I can agree that we should see iPhones to use USB-C by next year.
