Today, Apple sent out invites for their annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference, which is still in the online format that we all know and love. The event will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, and throughout the week of the event, there will be several developer sessions posted on Apple’s Developer website along with other resources and framework updates. Apple is expected to announce their next major updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS during the event.

What to Expect

The main announcements at WWDC are usually Apple’s latest releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, their core platforms .

iOS & iPadOS 16

These new updates are rumored to include a redesigned Apple Music app. They may also include a redesigned lock screen, based on the fact that it was rumored for last year, and that it took Apple 3 years to perfect Dark Mode. This redesigned lock screen may include complications for your important notifications.

I'm hoping to see an Apple Music design that looks like this iTunes concept I made for Windows 11.

Yet Another Case of Wishful Thinking for iPadOS

In April of last year, Apple announced that the iPad Pro will feature the M1 chip. This year, Apple also announced the iPad Air with the M1 chip. Of course, with an M1 chip, things would be faster and iPadOS will take advantage of that. Well, Apple didn't do anything with that power.

iPadOS currently does not require M1 to perform its best. The addition of M1 is likely for marketing. The iPad is not meant to be a computer replacement. The iPad has evolved from its original purpose, which I believe was to use for your kids to watch YouTube and play light games. The iPad can do more than just media consumption, but can be a video editing device, an art canvas, and a gaming device. This is in response to many people demanding Apple for Final Cut Pro on the iPad. Let's say Apple does add Final Cut Pro to the iPad. I'm sure some people will have problems and some people will enjoy it. I think people who use Final Cut Pro on their Mac will probably complain on how it's not the real deal, and that's where my point comes through. The iPad is an iPad. There's a limit to the things you can do, and people have to accept that.

Software

Currently, we do not have any information on macOS, watchOS, or tvOS, but look out for future articles that will go into more detail about the next updates, including iOS & iPadOS 16.

The elephant in the room

Apple for the past couple years has introduced new Mac Pros at WWDC, and I think we are all drawing blanks on some details. It is currently rumored that the Apple Silicon Mac Pro will come next year instead.
