According to Bloomberg, this time, Apple has halted production in a southern India Foxconn factory after protests and an investigation that revealed its living conditions are below standards. Foxconn has apologized for the low health standards and promised to improve its management and operations in the country.
An Apple spokesperson said that they have found out that some of the food safety and accommodations being used for employees do not meet their requirements and they are currently working with Foxconn to solve this issue quickly (via expansion & improvements of living areas, bathing facilities, and providing safe drinking water to meet its standards) and all workers will still be paid during the suspension without any further explanation.
Judging by the title of this article, did the same situation happen before?
Yes. The same situation happened last year at a Wistron factory in the same country (India) which workers have rioted over being underpaid, having irregular work hours and poor working conditions. Apple has halted production and both Apple and the Indian government launched investigations, which concluded that what the employees said were true, taking the same action to improve its working conditions before resuming production.
