When the new 14" & 16" MacBook Pros were released, we still had the option to buy the 13" M1 MacBook Pro. The entry-level. Based off the current leaks and rumors, we are expecting a refresh to the entry level MacBook Pro this year.

This new MacBook will feature the M2 Chip, the same one we expect to see in the 2022 MacBook Air. The M2 Chip will be more powerful than the M1, but not as powerful as the M1 Pro. We are expecting this new MacBook to be 14" rather than 13".

Design

The M1 MacBook Pro (13") took on the design of previous Intel MBPs, but this time around we are expecting it to get a redesign similar to the high end MacBook Pros. We are expecting to have thinner bezels, that all-black keyboard, no touch bar, and available in Silver & Space Gray.

Ports & MagSafe

The current M1 MacBook Pro has 3 ports. Thunderbolt and Headphone jack. When the 14" & 16" MacBook Pros were released they had MagSafe, 3 Thunderbolt, HDMI, SD Card Slot, and of course the headphone jack.

We hope the M2 MacBook Pro will take some inspiration from that and get the same ports, although we aren't sure.

Display

We are expecting something new, but not the same as the higher end pros. Mark Gurman says we wont see ProMotion or mini-LED on this device.

Proccessor, Memory, Release Date, Price

We are expecting this new MacBook to ship with the M2 processor, since its the follow-up of M1. We are expecting this laptop to have 8GB of RAM, and a maximum of 16GB to make space between the higher end MacBook Pros.

We arent expecting to see this MacBook at the Spring event, more likely WWDC22 or sometime in the Fall. The price can be expected to start at $1,299, which is much cheaper than the Pros.

But now its time to talk about the clickbait title. But really, is this a true Pro?

We are expecting to see a MacBook Air with almost the same exact specs, just a different design and look. We are expecting the M2 processor in both. 8GB or 16GB of RAM in both. Both are ditching the Touch Bar and expected to bring ports back.

While of course there are always differences, there arent too many on the inside. But, we might just have to wait and see.
