With the latest Apple iPod being released 1000 days ago, namely in 2019, there have been many questions rising about whether we will see another revision of the product that became a huge hit in the early 2000s. But to come to a conclusion we need to investigate whether it appeals to people nowadays.

In all reality, even though the iPod was dominating the market in the first half of the 2000s, the introduction of the iPhone started slowly taking away the iPod’s market share. This is because some of the main uses of the iPod were eliminated by the iPhone. Firstly, the main use of the iPod is music. But this can easily be done with an iPhone too, although the iPod still has a headphone jack. Secondly, the iPods were given to children as an easy way for them to contact with their parents via FaceTime. However, parents nowadays choose to buy their kids used iPhones, that cover all their needs plus the fact that when they get a mobile plan they will not need to get another device.

Ultimately, there is not a legitimate reason for Apple to keep refreshing the iPod touch, apart from keeping the product like alive. I would not be shocked if the iPod touch 7th gen, the current iPod, marks the end of the iPod.
